The UK produces over 8 million tonnes of food waste every year. The majority of this ends up in landfill, where it is highly detrimental to the environment. Landfilled food can emit methane – a potent greenhouse gas that is 23 times more damaging to the atmosphere than carbon dioxide.
To reduce methane emissions, the EU Landfill Directive obliges local authorities to send less biodegradable waste to landfill. Agrivert’s composting and anaerobic digestion plants can help local authorities meet these challenging goals and reduce their waste disposal costs.
Kerbside green and food waste collection schemes can significantly shrink a household’s net greenhouse gas emissions.
Agrivert designs, builds and operates facilities. By offering the choice of AD, IVC and green waste composting, Agrivert can provide a solution to suit the various organic waste collection schemes of local authorities.
Food waste recycling
Agrivert employs proven anaerobic digestion technology to meet the UK’s changing market demands and tightening legislation for packaged and unpackaged food and liquid wastes. This technology is designed to comply with the Animal By-Products Regulations (ABPR) and PAS110.
Co-mingled food and green waste composting
Agrivert has over eight years’ experience in building and operating in-vessel composting systems. We currently operate two IVC facilities to treat around 80,000 tonnes of co-mingled waste per year. This technology is designed to comply with the Animal By-Products Regulations (ABPR) and PAS100.
Green waste composting
Agrivert has around ten years’ experience in building and operating open windrow composting systems. We currently compost 50,000 tonnes of green waste per year for local authorities.
